Consumer Corner
The New England Regional Genetics Group
would like to announce
The Second Annual New England Advocacy for Genetic Conditions Forum
Consumers of genetic services, advocacy organizations, foundation leaders
and medical professionals are invited to attend this event.
This year we will be previewing the documentary film, Including Samuel, by
Dan Habib. This film examines the educational and social inclusion of youth
with disabilities as a civil rights issue. The film is built upon the
efforts of Habib and his family to include their son, Samuel, 7, in all
facets of school and community. Including Samuel also features four other
families with varied inclusion experiences, plus interviews with dozens of
teachers, young people, parents and disability rights experts.
The evening will commence with the viewing of the film, followed by a
discussion on inclusion, led by Terri McLaughlin, the Transition Coordinator
for the Parent Training and Information Center at the Federation for
Children with Special Needs, Boston.
Betsy Anderson of Family Voices will share information about resources and
activities of this national advocacy organization, and how you, too, can
become involved. Time will also be devoted to an open mike session,
networking opportunities and the sharing of success stories. The goal of
the forum is to increase advocacy, sharing and regional networking.
